Residents across Tendring will soon be able to recycle more materials from home as the district's expanded recycling scheme moves a step closer.

From Monday, 5 October, households will be able to recycle glass at the kerbside using the additional green recycling box that is currently being delivered to properties across the district. The changes will also allow residents to recycle more plastics, including pots, tubs and trays, as well as juice cartons and other materials.

The improvements are being introduced through Tendring District Council's (TDC) partnership with waste contractor Veolia as part of a new collection contract, which aligns both to feedback from residents and changes in national waste legislation.

With the start date now just weeks away, residents are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with the information provided alongside their new recycling container and check their updated recycling calendar ahead of the changes coming in.

Councillor Adrian Smith, TDC Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Being able to recycle more is something Tendring residents have been asking for, and following the extensive contract renewal work we're now not far away from delivering these exciting improvements to household services.

“Many residents will already have received their additional recycling box and information pack, and before long they will be able to recycle more materials from home.

“The biggest change is the introduction of kerbside glass collections, something residents have told us they would welcome. Alongside that, we are expanding the range of materials that can be recycled, helping people to reduce waste and recycle more than ever before.

“If you've not already done so, please take a few minutes to read the information provided and keep it somewhere safe, as it contains your new recycling calendar and details of what can and cannot be recycled.”

Most households will see no change to their collection arrangements other than being able to place glass and additional materials out for recycling on their green collection week.

A small number of homes will see changes to their collection schedule, with those affected having been contacted directly. Residents will soon be able to check their new collection schedule on the TDC website.

Although the new collections do not begin until October, residents can already use their additional recycling box for materials currently collected through the existing service.
