An inclusive, relaxed and BSL-interpreted show and two cheeky adults-only nights are bringing an extra sprinkling of panto magic to Clacton’s Princes Theatre this festive season.

The Magical Adventures of Sleeping Beauty, presented by Shone Productions, runs at the Tendring District Council-run (TDC) theatre from Saturday, 5 December, to Tuesday, 29 December, 2026, with special performances giving even more people the chance to enjoy the show.

The curtain rises on Saturday, 5 December, at 1pm with an opening-performance offer of £15.50 for every ticket, giving families the chance to be among the first to experience this year’s fairy-tale adventure at a reduced price.

A relaxed and British Sign Language-interpreted performance will take place on Thursday, 17 December, at 6pm. The show will feature no complete darkness, loud noises, flashing lights or pyrotechnic effects, while audience members are welcome to move around, make noise and enjoy the production in an inclusive and accepting atmosphere.

For those who like their panto with a naughty twist, the adults-only Sleeping Beauty returns for two performances following popular demand, on Sunday, 27 December, and Monday, 28 December, at 8pm.

Suitable for ages 18 and over, the grown-up version turns the familiar bedtime story on its head with cheeky one-liners, outrageous comedy, innuendo, eye-catching costumes and dazzling dance routines.

James Shone, of Shone Productions, said: “Pantomime should be an experience everyone can enjoy, so we are delighted to offer several different ways to see Sleeping Beauty this Christmas.

“Our relaxed and BSL-interpreted show creates a welcoming setting for people who may find a standard performance difficult, without losing the colour, comedy and excitement that make panto so special.

“There is also a great-value opening performance for families and, at the other end of the scale, two adults-only shows where we can really let the comedy loose. Whichever performance you choose, audiences can expect a brilliant night out.”

Councillor Gary Scott, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Heritage, who is also responsible for Equality and Inclusion, said: “Christmas in Clacton simply would not be complete without pantomime, and these special performances mean even more people can join in the fun.

“Whether you are looking for a more relaxed and inclusive theatre experience, a great-value family outing or a lively night with friends, there is a performance to suit you.

“We are proud that the Princes Theatre continues to make live entertainment welcoming and accessible, while still delivering all the laughs, spectacle and festive magic audiences expect from a Clacton panto.”

Tickets are available now from the Princes Theatre website at princestheatre.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01255 686633 (Option 1).
