Households in the Tendring district are being asked to check their voter registration details as part of the annual canvass.
Letters are being sent to homes so Tendring’s Electoral Registration Officer can make sure the electoral register is accurate and up to date.
Residents should read the letter carefully and respond if they are asked to confirm that there are no changes, or if they need to update the details of anyone living at their address.
Residents are also being contacted by email with the details of how to provide their updated details. We will never ask for bank details and there is no charge for the service.
Responding promptly helps avoid reminders being sent and is especially important for people who have recently moved home, or households with young people aged 16 or 17 who may need to be added.
Ian Davidson, Electoral Registration Officer for Tendring, said: “This annual check is an important part of making sure everyone who is eligible to vote has the opportunity to do so.
“It only takes a few minutes to look over the information for your household, and responding when asked helps us keep the register accurate for the year ahead.
“Please don’t assume someone else in your home has dealt with it — check the letter and reply in the way it asks you to.
“We particularly want to make sure that young people, new residents and older residents are not missed from the register where they are eligible.
“The quickest and easiest way to respond is online, and you will receive confirmation straight away.”
Online and text responses are the most efficient ways for residents to confirm or update their details, but households can also respond by phone or post if needed.
People who respond online or by text will receive immediate confirmation. Anyone replying by post will need to provide their own envelope and stamp.
