A High Court injunction has been granted to help keep this year’s Clacton Airshow running safely and smoothly by preventing unauthorised camping in designated seafront areas.

Tendring District Council (TDC), which organises the popular annual event, successfully applied for the order at the High Court of Justice in London last week (29 July).

The injunction will be in place from 00.01am on Thursday, 20 August, through to 11.59pm on Saturday, 5 September, and covers specified areas in Clacton.

It applies to anyone intending to park or place a caravan, campervan, mobile home or tent on the land or roads shown in the order’s schedule and plans.

The order prohibits all forms of camping, including overnight camping, within the restricted zones during the airshow period.

Anyone who breaches the injunction could face contempt of court proceedings, which may result in a fine, imprisonment or the seizure of assets.

The injunction, granted jointly to TDC and Essex County Council, follows similar orders secured in previous years and remains an important measure in supporting the safe delivery of the event.

Councillor Ivan Henderson, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Clacton Airshow is a much-loved event which attracts huge crowds to our seafront and provides a real boost for the district.

“With so many people coming into the town, it is important we take sensible steps to protect the event site and keep key routes and public spaces clear.

“This injunction is a practical measure which has worked well in previous years, helping to prevent unauthorised camping and reduce the risk of disruption during the airshow period.

“Our aim is to make sure residents, visitors and businesses can enjoy the event safely, while helping everyone make the most of what promises to be another fantastic Clacton Airshow.”

The sites covered by the injunction include land on the south side of Marine Parade West from Clacton Pier to Collingwood Road, as well as the Martello Bay area.

Seafront roads covered include Hastings Avenue, between West Road and Selsey Avenue; Marine Parade West; and West Road, between the junction with Marine Parade West/Wash Lane and Hastings Avenue.

Car park land covered includes the Hastings Avenue, Hastings Bay and Martello Coach and Car Park sites.

Airshow organisers have already revealed a host of aircraft that will be taking to the skies on Thursday, 27 August, and Friday, 28 August, including the RAF Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, as well as the return of the popular twilight display on the Thursday evening.
