Four of Tendring’s most cherished parks and gardens have once again been recognised as some of the finest in the UK, proudly retaining their prestigious Green Flag Awards for 2025.
Clacton Seafront Gardens, Weeley Crematorium and Gardens, Cliff Park in Dovercourt, and Crescent Gardens in Frinton have all been awarded the internationally recognised Green Flag – a symbol of excellence in green space management and community involvement.
Mick Barry, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Realm, praised the achievement as a reflection of the community’s shared commitment to its green spaces.
“Retaining these Green Flag Awards once again is a real credit to the dedication and passion of our Open Spaces team and the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our parks and gardens looking their best,” said Councillor Barry.
“These green spaces are more than just beautiful places – they’re a source of pride for our communities.
“By championing our local environment, we’re not only enhancing quality of life for residents but also creating welcoming destinations that attract visitors and encourage them to stay and explore all that Tendring has to offer.”
The Green Flag Award, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, is the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces across the UK and beyond.
Sites are judged on a wide range of criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness, accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement.
Clacton Seafront Gardens first earned its Green Flag in 2009, followed by Crescent Gardens in 2010, Weeley Crematorium in 2013, and Cliff Park in 2016.
Their continued success highlights the long-term dedication to maintaining high standards year after year.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Tendring who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Awards.
“Quality parks and green spaces like Clacton Seafront Gardens, Weeley Crematorium, Cliff Park and Crescent Gardens make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, these gardens are vital green spaces for communities in Tendring to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
The awards are a reminder of the value of green spaces in our daily lives – not just as places of beauty, but as vital community assets that support wellbeing, biodiversity, and local pride.
