The former Tendring District Council (TDC) offices in Weeley are set to go under the hammer at auction next month.
The property, in Thorpe Road, has officially been listed for sale in Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers’ September catalogue, with the auction set to conclude on 30 October 2025.
The move follows a TDC Cabinet decision in July to dispose of the site via auction, aiming to reduce ongoing costs and secure best value for taxpayers.
The site has been vacant for some time and currently costs the Council around £65,000 per year to maintain.
Councillor Mark Stephenson, TDC Leader, said:
"We’re pleased to see this next step in the disposal of the former Weeley Offices site.
“Listing it with Clive Emson provides a transparent and competitive route to sale, and we hope it will attract strong interest from potential buyers."
The site is being offered with a guide price of £650,000 to £750,000 and includes the main office building — complete with Council Chambers and Chairman’s Parlour — plus a warehouse, additional offices, and storage units. One unit is currently tenanted under a monthly licence agreement.
Covering just over two acres, the site is recognised in the Tendring District Local Plan as allocated for housing, subject to planning consent.
Councillor Stephenson added: "This is a significant opportunity for the right buyer, and we look forward to seeing the site brought back into productive use."
