Households across Tendring have received an additional recycling box ahead of new materials being collected from next week.

From October 5 residents can add glass bottles and jars, plastic pots, and cartons to their green week recycling for collection from the kerbside by Tendring District Council (TDC) contractors Veolia.

Residents can use their additional box for other recyclable materials this week, but should not present glass for collection until their next green recycling week from Monday, 5 October.

Glass can be placed in with other materials, with households asked to be mindful of the weight of boxes which have to be manually handled by collection teams.

Adrian Smith, TDC Cabinet Member for Environment, thanked Veolia for their work to date implementing the new contract and for delivery of the extra 70,000 new green recycling boxes.

“This represents a significant improvement to our recycling service, making it easier for residents to recycle more,” Councillor Smith said.

“I look forward to reporting on the additional recycling tonnage we anticipate collecting as the new service becomes established – and I would encourage everyone to make the most of this additional service."

Residents in Point Clear will see their waste and recycling collection day change next week (week commencing 5 October), with most moving from a Thursday to a Tuesday collection day.

Meanwhile households in Elmstead Market, Frating and Great Bentley will have two green recycling weeks in a row – black bins, green box items such as glass, plastic pots and tins, and food waste – before alternating again.

People in those areas are asked to check with recycling calendar, which they can do online.

Councillor Smith added: “Given the level of additional service being introduced I am grateful to our waste team and our contractors for their efforts in minimising the number of collection day and calendar changes required to roll this out to our 70,000-odd households.”
