Tendring District Council (TDC) is proud to announce it has successfully retained its status as a Disability Confident Leader – the highest level of accreditation under the Government-run scheme.

Following a thorough reassessment process, the Council has once again been recognised by the Department for Work and Pensions for its efforts to remove barriers to employment and create a working environment where everyone can thrive.

The reaccreditation is valid for a further three years and confirms TDC’s position at the highest level of the national Disability Confident scheme.

“This is a significant achievement and one that reflects our ongoing commitment to being an inclusive, supportive, and forward-thinking employer,” said Councillor Jayne Chapman, Chair of the Human Resources Committee.

“The Disability Confident scheme, led by the Department for Work and Pensions, is designed to help employers recruit and retain those people with additional barriers to employment.

“Being recognised as a Leader — the highest level of the scheme — means that we are not only meeting the standards expected, but we are also actively championing disability inclusion both within our organisation and across our wider community.”

The reaccreditation highlights the Council’s practical approach to supporting staff with disabilities — from recruitment and training to workplace adjustments and career development.

In addition, TDC has now been officially recognised as a Fostering Friendly employer, joining a growing network of organisations that support employees with caring responsibilities.

This new accreditation reflects the Council’s commitment to flexible working and a supportive culture that values the contribution of all staff.

These achievements build on TDC’s wider efforts to be a supportive and forward-thinking employer — one that puts people first and works hard to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
