The result of the Clacton constituency by-election has been declared following a record-breaking election.
Voters went to the polls on Thursday, 13 August, to choose who will represent the Clacton constituency in Parliament.
The by-election saw 34 candidates stand - the highest number ever recorded for a UK parliamentary election.
Ian Davidson, Acting Returning Officer for the Clacton by-election, said: “This has been an unusual and high-profile by-election, and I would like to thank everyone who took part in the democratic process.
“Thank you to voters, candidates, agents, polling station staff, count staff, police colleagues and everyone else who helped ensure the poll and count were delivered properly, fairly and securely.
“Running any election is a major operation, but the record number of candidates, the size of the ballot paper and significant interest in this by-election brought additional practical challenges.
“I am grateful to all those involved for their professionalism and hard work throughout.”
The winner of the by-election is Nigel Farage (Reform UK), who gained 22,239 votes. The turnout was 44.37%.
