Food safety inspection

Food safety inspections and your business

Why are food businesses inspected?

Business that produce or prepare food for the public are inspected to make sure that:

  • the food is safe to eat
  • the description of the food doesn't mislead the customer

These inspections are to make sure businesses are following the FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE(ENGLAND) REGULATIONS 2013, similar regulations apply to the rest of the UK.

The Food Standards Agency have produced a booklet to inform businesses of what to expect when an inspector calls Food Law Inspections and Your Business.  Information on food composition and labelling can be found on the GOV.uk website.

For more information on food safety inspections please contact Tendring District Council's Food and Safety Team.
