Rubbish and Recycling (Coronavirus updates)

All waste and recycling collections are continuing as normal – this page will be updated if the situation changes.

We will not be removing restrictions on side waste at this time. This is because the amount of additional waste this creates (based on Christmas) we would need additional waste lorries and workers – which is not sustainable over an extended period of time.

We would look at other steps first, such as suspending the garden waste service to free up those crews (and freezing payments/extended time period for subscribers).

If you are struggling to stay within the wheelie bin limit, please try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible to cut down the amount of waste going in the black bin. You can still use recycling banks for glass and other items.

Where households have a large amount of waste due to the number of people living there, or medical needs, then you can apply online for authorised side waste.

Even though Essex County Council recycling centres are closed, a lot of the waste which goes there such as furniture would not be collected by us anyway. We would advise homes to store any such items in a way which causes the least nuisance to neighbours at this time.

Please work with us during these exceptional times, and where possible store waste until recycling sites open again – and in doing so reduce the burden on the kerbside collection service.
