How should we involve our communities in the planning process?

Councils are required to have a 'Statement of Community Involvement' (sometimes abbreviated to 'SCI' for short) which explains how residents and other interested parties will be notified, consulted and involved in preparing the Local Plan and other planning documents, and considering major planning applications.

On 2 November 2017, the Local Plan Committee agreed a public consultation on a new version of the SCI.  The consultation ran for eight weeks from 13 November 2017 to 8 January 2018.

On 15th July 2020, the Planning Policy and Local Plan Committee agreed the addition of a covering note to the SCI in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The update explains that, in light of the current situation, the Council may not be able to follow all of the commitments set out in the document and details the ways in which our service has changed as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
