Town twinning: Manningtree and District-Frankenberg

Manningtree and District-Frankenberg Partnership Association

The Manningtree District Frankenberg Partnership was founded in 1970. Now, almost 50 years later, they seek to build on the many successes achieved and to sustain and further develop their Partnership. Through regular contact between individuals and families and through links and visits between special interest groups, they enable communities to meet together socially and learn about each other’s lifestyle, cultures and aspirations.

Is it for you?

If you like to travel, enjoy making new friends and exploring new places, you like to learn and understand about where you are and who you meet and you feel that maintaining strong links with our near neighbours is as important today as it was back in 1970 then perhaps you would like to know a little more.

Where is Frankenberg?

It is about 110 miles east of Cologne in the state of Hesse. It is an old and historically important town and now a successful urban centre whose wider district includes a number of surrounding villages.

Who are Manningtree and District-Frankenberg?

Manningtree District Frankenberg Partnership Association (MDFPA) is an independent, self-supporting membership association.  Our members come from all over the Tendring Peninsular as well as from the Essex-Suffolk border villages. Annual membership is £5 per person (see details below).

What do they do?

Thanks to a dedicated and hard-working committee they aim to raise community awareness and stimulate interest in the Partnership.   They arrange social events several times during the year, often German-themed and with entertainments. Our AGM is held in March. We are in regular contact with our partner town to share ideas and to make plans and arrangements for visits.

Forthcoming major events.  In 2020 they will organise a 4/5 day visit to Frankenberg to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the signing of the Partnership Charter. Group travel and hosted, family based accommodation is offered with hotels or B and B available if preferred.  Dates and programme details will follow.

In 2021 they will play hosts to visitors travelling from Frankenberg for their 50th Anniversary celebrations here in Manningtree.
