Volunteers praised for hard work in seafront gardens

Green-fingered volunteers have been praised for their efforts to help Clacton’s seafront gardens bloom.

A number of residents help out with the upkeep of the popular gardens which attract thousands of visitors every year.

The area has just retained its prestigious Green Flag from Keep Britain Tidy, along with three other sites run by Tendring District Council (TDC).

The flag was delivered as the volunteers – who play a crucial role – were at work.

Michael Talbot, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said he wants to thank all those who get involved at all the locations for their ongoing efforts.

“The community aspect and volunteers playing their part in these sites is absolutely crucial to them receiving this award,” he said.

“At Clacton we have a hardy bunch that turn out in all weathers and work alongside Council staff to make these gardens such a positive and popular part of the seafront attractions.

“Both the staff and volunteers are regularly praised by people visiting the gardens.”

TDC also has Green Flags at Crescent Garden, Frinton; Weeley Crematorium Gardens and Cliff Park, Dovercourt.

Anyone wanting to join the volunteers should contact TDC on 01255 686643.
