Two tents are set to be removed from Jaywick Beach following complaints from residents.
A number of homeless people have camped on the beach at various times since the Summer and now the situation is to be resolved.
Those owning the tents – and other items at the site – have been informed of the situation by Tendring District Council (TDC) and all are now living in other accommodation.
Two are in temporary accommodation provided by the Council and the third is staying with a friend.
Mick Skeels, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said that the Council has spoken to the occupants of the tents on several occasions having received complaints to TDC’s Jaywick Neighbourhood Team.
“Officers have tried to work with those living on the beach over the past few months to find them somewhere to live,” he said. “They have now all left the tents; one tent has gone and two remain.
“Enforcement notices were served last Thursday giving one week for the items to be removed and officers will be returning this week to check on the situation.”
TDC will also remove any rubbish that has been left on the beach around the tents and dispose of it.
“The owners have been advised that they need to collect anything that they want to keep before it is taken away,” added Cllr Skeels.
