The celebrity for the Princes Theatre pantomime this winter has been revealed as X-Factor star Marcus Collins.
Marcus, who came runner-up to Little Mix in 2011, will play Peter Pan in the Polka Dot Pantomimes’ show in Clacton.
It is not the first time Liverpudlian Marcus, 30, has trod the boards at the Princes Theatre, as alongside a seven-piece band he performed a series of Motown hits and brand new material in his touring show in October 2014.
Since appearing on the X-Factor Marcus has played Seaweed Stubbs in an award-winning version of Hairpsray, joined the cast of West End Men, and won critical acclaim for his performances in the London West End original cast of Tony Award and six-time Olivier Award winning musical Kinky Boots, playing the part of Angel.
Mick Skeels, Tendring District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said he was delighted Marcus would star at the council-run theatre’s panto.
“Marcus has great talent, both in his singing voice but also on the stage with his performances in musicals,” he said.
“He is a brilliant name to star in the panto, and I can’t wait to see him this winter.”
Last year’s panto, also put on by Polka Dot Pantomimes, broke box office records at the Princes Theatre.
Budding performers are also being invited to audition for a part in this year’s panto, taking to the stage alongside the professional West End cast.
Producers are looking for boys to play the principal roles of Michael and John, children to play Nana/Cros and the lost boys, and an all-signing all-dancing chorus.
Auditions are being held at the Princes Theatre on Friday, June 15, from 5-6pm for Michaels and Johns, and 6.30-8.30pm for other roles. Children must be no younger than nine by September 1 2018, and parents cannot watch the auditions.
Audition packs – for which two recent photos are required – can be picked up at the Visitor Information Centre, or alternatively contact Polka Dot Pantomimes on 01775 712359 or at email@example.com
