Residents can now sign up to a new SMS text service which will send a handy reminder to their mobile phone if their monthly council tax payment is late.
The text reminder service greatly reduces the number of formal notices sent to customers who have genuinely overlooked making their payment.
Cllr Paul Honeywood, Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Cabinet Member for Housing, praised the initiative and said that survey results indicate that the initiative has been well received.
"We’re always looking at ways to make things easier for residents, who are used to doing more and more on their phones and tablets," he said.
"The new text reminders have the added bonus of cutting down on the Council’s use of paper so I hope as many people as possible take up the opportunity to opt into the scheme."
Any customers who would like to sign up for the text service, but have not provided a current mobile phone number, can do so by emailing both their council tax account number and a mobile phone number to email@example.com .
A link to the council’s website will also be provided for those who prefer to pay via the internet.
The next batch of texts reminding those who have missed their September instalment will be sent week commencing 11th September.
