Residents reminded to use approved trades for energy efficient home works

Tendring residents are being reminded to use approved traders for works on their home.

The warning comes after some people contacted Tendring District Council (TDC) about a letter they received from a firm offering to improve the energy efficiency of their home under a Government grant. The residents felt they had been misled by the letter, having been left under the impression it came from the Council.

While there are many companies which may offer to do such work, TDC is working with just two – Aran and Anesco.

Anyone who is unsure about whether an offer is genuine is invited to contact TDC Housing Officer Rachel Stirling on 01255 686785, or visit https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/housing/housing-options-advice/private-rented-or-owned-housing/grants/energy-efficiency for more information.

Paul Honeywood, TDC Cabinet Member for Housing, said it was always a good idea for people to check who they were using to carry out work.

“While there are many reputable traders doing honest work in Tendring, as with any area there are always a few who try to cash in on recognised schemes,” he said.

“It is always sensible to check your trader is approved by Trading Standards, or if the firm says it is working with TDC that they really are.

“Improving the energy efficiency of your home is a good move which is good for the environment and reducing your household bills, but only if it is done correctly by a proper tradesman.”
