Pantomime ends record-breaking box office run with five star reviews

This season’s pantomime at Clacton’s Princes Theatre has broken box office records – the third year in a row the panto has done so at the venue.

Peter Pan, starring X Factor finalist Marcus Collins as the hero of Neverland, exceeded last year’s ticket sales by nearly £1,500, setting a new record for the ever-popular panto venue

This year has also seen an unprecedented number of reviews by theatre-goers on TripAdvisor and Facebook, with virtually all of them giving a five star rating.

It is the third time box office takings have risen for the pantomime, and the fifth time audience numbers have broken the 12,000 mark, with Peter Pan first pulling in 12,143 customers in 2013.

This run saw 12,636 people attend the panto, compared to 5,618 in 2009 when professional pantos were first introduced.

Polka Dot Pantomimes have produced the last eight shows in association with Tendring District Council (TDC), which operates the Princes Theatre.

Mick Skeels, TDC Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, praised the hard work put in by the cast, crew and theatre staff in making the panto such a success.

“I thoroughly enjoyed Peter Pan, it was a fantastic show, and it is no surprise to me that it has been our most successful pantomime yet,” Cllr Skeels said.

“This is all credit to the team who make it happen, and further proof of the success of our partnership with Polka Dot Pantomimes.

“It just goes to show how popular pantomime is at Christmas time, and also demonstrates how the already stellar reputation of the Princes Theatre continues to grow.”

An Easter pantomime is once again being staged at the Princes Theatre. Kerry Katona, who became a worldwide sensation as part of Atomic Kitten, stars in Beauty and the Beast at the venue, with two performances on Sunday, April 14.
