A new mobile phone app promoting leisure and events in Tendring has gone live – and exclusively reveals new flights for Clacton Airshow.
Tendring District Council (TDC) has developed the Love Tendring app to promote events in the area.
The app, free to download on both Apple and Android devices, shows upcoming events in the district. As it is developed further it will also show what's on at the council-run Princes Theatre and leisure centres.
To reward people who download the app, it contains exclusive details of the next set of flights being unveiled for this month’s Clacton Airshow.
Funding for the app has come from TDC's Transformation Project, a strand of which is looking at improving how the authority communicates with residents and visitors.
Just under £90,000 has been spent on developing the app, with around £6,000 in annual running and support costs.
In addition to promoting leisure and tourism events across the district, the app is an additional media stream to help increase income to the council, for example through increased theatre ticket sales and leisure centre visits.
Since 2019 mobile phone users accessing the council’s website is the method of choice outgrowing desktop PC and table access.
Alex Porter, TDC Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, encouraged people to download the app.
“Love Tendring is a great way of finding out what's on in the district and discovering fun things to do,” Councillor Porter said.
“With Clacton Airshow fast approaching now is the perfect time to download the app and keep up to date with the latest flight announcements.
“The use of smartphones continues to rapidly grow, and developing an app helps to keep Tendring District Council relevant in this technological age.
“We have a fantastic leisure and tourism offer in Tendring, and anything we can do to shout about it is a good thing.”
