The Red Ensign will fly outside Clacton Town Hall on September 3 to mark Merchant Navy Day 2018.
A short ceremony will be held as the ensign is raised, as Tendring District Council (TDC) backs a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers.
The ceremony takes place at 10am and all are welcome to attend the event.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is supporting the call from the Seafarers UK charity and the Merchant Navy Association for the UK Merchant Navy’s official flag to be flown on public buildings and landmark flagstaffs.
Mark Platt, TDC Chairman, said he was proud to once again be taking part in the ceremony by raising the flag.
“This is about showing our support, as the public, for the brilliant work done by the Merchant Navy, for which we thank them,” Cllr Platt added.
