Development rejected as unsustainable

A development of four bungalows in Great Oakley has been rejected on the grounds that it is unsustainable.

Cooper Bros (Great Oakley) Ltd put in the outline plans for 0.2 hectares of land north of Stones Green Road.

The site is part of a larger arable field owned by the company which lies outside the settlement development boundary.

Tendring District Council (TDC) had refused planning permission twice before and the area of the development has been reduced in size.

The Council decided that the latest scheme is both socially and environmentally unsustainable and that would not be outweighed by the benefit of the four new homes.

It was considered that the proposal would be an intrusion into the countryside and an urbanisation of the semi-rural character of the area.

TDC received five letters of objection to the application.
