Gipping has donated £1,500 to pay for Christmas trees which have taken pride of place in Clacton Town Centre and in Jaywick Sands.
The company is currently working on a ten new homes being built by Tendring District Council (TDC) in Jaywick Sands, on Lotus Way.
A 35ft tree was installed in Clacton Town Square today (Tuesday, 26 November) and will remain there throughout the festive season until early January. TDC has installed the tree and will decorate it with lights.
A 15ft tree has also been installed outside the OK Café in Broadway, Jaywick Sands – the first time the village has had a public tree.
Installed by TDC and supported by Essex County Council as part of a community initiative, local organisations are taking on decorating duties.
Damian Williams, TDC’s Head of Building and Engineering Services, thanked Gipping for its generous gesture.
“The Town Square is the central point for seasonal festivities in Clacton, and we are very grateful to the company for donating this year’s tree,” Mr Williams said.
“I am sure that it will give a great deal of pleasure to so many people over the Christmas period.
“It is also very exciting to be able to support the first community Christmas Tree in Jaywick Sands, and we hope it is well appreciated by residents there.”
Clacton’s Christmas tree lights will be officially switched on Saturday 30 November at about 5pm, with help from the cast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Princes Theatre. The event is organised by the Clacton Town Centre Partnership.
The Jaywick Sands lights will be switched on with a community event from 3.30pm on Sunday 1 December.
