Clinicians across north east Essex say there are strong health and financial benefits to stop smoking.
It follows the launch of the Stoptober stop smoking campaign - the national 28 day challenge that takes place during October - which gives subscribers access to a range of free tools including daily emails, Facebook and text messages to kick the habit.
Clinicians say quitting brings lifestyle and health benefits, like improvements in breathing and fitness, better levels of taste and smell as well as improvements to the appearance of skin and teeth. According to experts at the Live Well campaign, the average smoker has 13 cigarettes a day, which works out as 364 cigarettes a month. That's £141 a month and £1,696 a year that you could be saving by not smoking.**
Clacton GP Dr Prashant Arora said: "Stop smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. As soon as you stop, you will start seeing and feeling the benefits to your health and your lifestyle.
"It’s never too late to kick the habit and quitting success rates are currently at their highest level ever recorded. If you can stop smoking for 28 days it’s widely reported that you are five times more likely to quit for good."
In addition to the website, there is a mobile phone app which includes plenty of tips and advice – all designed to help increase your chances to stop smoking.
