War veterans, organisations and Tending residents stood side by side to commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe on Clacton seafront today.
The Royal British Legion (RBL) and Tendring District Council (TDC) staged a VE Day service at the town’s War Memorial Gardens on Marine Parade West at 11am.
The service was led by Reverend David Lower with a reading by the TDC Chairman Cllr Mark Platt.
Cllr Platt thanked those who came along to the ceremony.
“It is heart-warming to see everyone here today on this important anniversary of VE Day”.
“We must never forget the sacrifices made by so many men and women during the Second World War. This is a chance for us all to stand side by side to remember them and the end the conflict in Europe.” he added.
