Balcony can be built on Dovercourt home Planning Inspector rules

A balcony can be added to a second floor building in Dovercourt after a Planning Inspector overturned a decision made by Tendring District Council (TDC).

TDC had refused permission for the balcony on the rear of the home in Fronks Road, with concerns over the impact on nearby properties – particularly noise disturbance and the potential for overlooking – and harm to the appearance of the house.

However, a Planning Inspector has overruled TDC, stating that the impact on the building would be minimal and that other neighbouring properties also had balconies – therefore not causing unacceptable harm.

TDC had already approved plans for a single storey front and side garage extension, submitted as part of the same scheme, as this had been deemed to be acceptable.
