A Parliamentary (General) Election to elect the UK Member of Parliament for the Clacton Constituency will be held on Thursday 12 December 2019.
The (Acting) Returning Officer for the Clacton Parliamentary Constituency is Ian Davidson, Tendring District Council and is responsible for the election of a UK Member of Parliament for that electoral area.
The (Acting) Returning Officer for the Harwich and North East Essex Parliamentary Constituency is Adrian Pritchard, Colchester Borough Council and is responsible for the election of a UK Member of Parliament for that electoral area, which includes a number of polling districts within Tendring.
Who is eligible to vote in this election?
You can vote in the General Election if you are registered to vote in the UK, are 18 or over on 12 December 2019 and are:
· A British citizen living in the UK
· A British citizen living overseas
· A Commonwealth citizen living in the UK who has leave to remain
If you are not registered to vote, you will need to register to vote by Tuesday 26 November to vote at the UK general election. You can apply to register to vote at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

How do I vote?
If you are a registered elector and you are eligible to vote, there are three ways you can vote in this election.
1. In person at your polling station
You will receive a poll card in May telling you where your polling station is. You can check your polling station location on our where to vote page.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 12 December 2019.
2. By post
To apply to vote by post, you will need to complete a postal vote application form.
Once you have completed and signed your application form, return it to Electoral Services, Tendring District Council, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1SE by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019.
You will receive your ballot paper by post. A ballot paper can be sent overseas, but you need to think about whether you will have time to receive and return it so it arrives back by 10pm on Thursday 12 December 2019.
3. By proxy
Voting by proxy means appointing somebody you trust to vote on your behalf. To apply to vote by proxy, you will need to complete a proxy vote application form.
Once you have completed and signed your application form, return it to Electoral Services, Tendring District Council, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1SE by 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2019.
When you apply for a proxy vote you will need to state why you cannot vote in person. Your proxy must be registered to vote and eligible to vote in the general election. Your proxy will vote on your behalf so you will need to tell them how you want to vote.

Nomination papers may be delivered between 10am and 4pm from Monday 11 November 2019 until the close of nominations at 4pm on Thursday 14 November 2019. Should you wish to stand as a candidate in this election, please complete a nomination pack which can be found at the top of this page.
