CCTV Code of Practice

Please note: Some of this information may be out of date, we are currently working on updating this for you.

The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system within Tendring comprises 66 cameras which are located in Clacton, Gt. Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Brightlingsea, Dovercourt and Harwich, all linked to the CCTV control centre.

A telephone line links the control centre directly to Clacton Police Station so the police can be alerted quickly to potential trouble or they can request the cameras be directed to a certain area.
Additionally there is a slave incident monitor to allow the police to track what is happening within Clacton Town Centre. There are also slave monitors in Harwich and Brightlingsea Police stations so they can monitor the cameras in their respective areas. However, movement of cameras and recording of images remains within the Tendring CCTV control centre at all times.

Release of recorded images is strictly controlled and only occurs in full compliance with all relevant legislation. Details of this can be obtained from the CCTV control centre.

The CCTV control centre is also linked to the TenBAC (Tendring Business Against Crime) radio system operated by the shops, pubs and clubs within Clacton town centre and control centre staff are able to listen in and offer assistance, including alerting the police if necessary.

The CCTV control centre can be contacted on 01255 423 360.
