Mistley Quay Workshops

A series of calligraphy classes starting Wednesday 1st March then every 4 weeks until Wednesday 19th July (6 in total)

Come and learn the art of beautiful writing - for pleasure, relaxation or study. After a short introduction to a variety of calligraphic styles, we will begin with the basics of forming elegant letters using pencils, pen and ink. You will be given individual guidance to create a unique piece of work, a favourite poem or quotation. An array of tools and techniques used will also be explored.

Malt and water are the basic raw materials of beer and malt whisky, and malt has been made from grain for thousands of years. Ivor Murrell, Master Maltster, and the last traditional floor maltster in Suffolk, will talk about the Art and Mystery of Malting - those empiric skills using water, air and fire.

The event is now in its seventh year and saw over one thousand supporters take to the coast last year to walk the 7 or 14 miles in support of the hospice. Supporters can register alone or in groups and the hospice is encouraging friends, families, work colleagues, dog walkers, fitness and weight loss groups to register. Many participants walk in memory of a loved one who was cared for by the hospice, and see the walk as a great opportunity to reflect on good times had whilst soaking up the beautiful coastal scenery.
