The highlight of any airshow, the world famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team the Red Arrows, will be doubling up at Clacton again this year.
The crowd-pullers will be performing in the skies above the town for both days of the Clacton Airshow on August 24 and 25.
The team is made up of nine fast jet pilots, engineers and support staff with frontline, operational experience and has been a regular part of the flying programme over the past 26 years.
As the public face of the Royal Air Force, the team assists with recruiting into the Service, contribute to defence diplomacy and support wider national interests by representing the United Kingdom and its industry.
It is all about speed, agility and precision and the team has been training throughout the winter at its home base of RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire.
There are three new pilots in the line-up for 2017 and it was only last month that they flew the “nine-ship” formation for the first time ahead of what is a packed season of events both at home and abroad.
Tanya Ferguson, Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture, said that it is always great to be able to confirm the participation of the Red Arrows at Clacton.
“The Red Arrows are a major part of any airshow, eagerly awaited by the crowds and their contribution is immense,” she said.
“It is one of those displays that you never tire of seeing over and over again and they always leave you wanting more.
“Our organising team feels that it is very important for us to have them on both days of the event – provided that they are available - and I am glad to say that is the case again this year.
“We always like to unveil the Red Arrows first and we will be announcing more aircraft over the coming months, along with those who will be taking part in the exciting night flying on 24 August.”
BBC Essex will once again be providing Radio Airshow on 103.5FM and 729MW.
