Plans to demolish a village’s restaurant and pub and replace it with four new homes and a convenience store have been taken off the menu.
Fat Goose Property Developments submitted the scheme for the Fat Goose in Heath Road, Tendring, which has been rejected by Tendring District Council (TDC).
The proposal was for three four-bedroom detached properties along with the store with a flat above.
The application goes against TDC’s policy to retain public houses where possible and the Fat Goose has not been on the market for 12 months, with little information provided about attempts to sell it on.
The development was also not considered to be socially sustainable with a lack of services and facilities – as well as being out of character with the semi-rural location.
A lack of parking was also seen as a problem by TDC.
Tendring Parish Council objected to the scheme and there were two other letters of opposition.
