Old timber essex barn to be converted into home

Monday, 9 October, 2017

An old timber Essex Barn dating back to before 1875 is set to be converted into a new home.

The barn, on Lilley’s Farm in Carringtons Road, is structurally sound and has not been listed.

It is set amongst several more modern agricultural storage barns, two of which have already been approved to be converted for residential use.

All the accommodation on the Essex Barn will be on the ground floor and it will contain four bedrooms.

Tendring District Council (TDC) decided that the conversion is acceptable and would enhance the overall appearance of the structure in its traditional rural setting.

Great Bromley Parish Council was neutral about the proposal but had concerns about the water supply.

TDC also received two letters of observation.
