Frinton businessman Mark Platt is the new Chairman of Tendring District Council (TDC).
Cllr Platt, who represents the Hamford Ward, was elected at a recent Full Council meeting and takes over from Jayne Chapman whose year in office has come to an end.
His theme for his year will be “This is Tendring” and his aim is to celebrate the District wherever and whenever possible.
Cllr Platt has chosen a number of charities and organisations to support and will be staging a number of fundraising events over the next 12 months.
The first four charities to be revealed were the RNLI, specifically Clacton, Frinton and Walton and Harwich Lifeboat Stations; Prostate Cancer; Guide Dogs for the Blind UK and St Helena Hospice, Clacton.
Cllr Platt congratulated Cllr Chapman, who represents Brightlingsea, on a fantastic year in which she raised more than £13,000 for charity and attended more than 180 events.
The Vice-Chairman for the coming year is Karen Yallop, who also represents Brightlingsea.
