Homeowners’ wish granted to downsize for retirement

A homeowner has been given the green light to build a new house in the garden of his Brightlingsea home ready for his retirement.

Simon Redfearn put forward the scheme for Spring Road and it includes knocking down a garage to create the room needed.

Mr Redfearn told Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Planning Committee that his idea was to have a home for him and his wife to downsize to. There will be a shared access and a garage and parking arrangements will be provided as part of the proposal.

Brightlingsea Town Council opposed the application and TDC received six letters of objection.

However, the committee granted consent for the amended plans – with conditions - which Mr Redfearn said had taken into account the objections.

There were concerns about highway safety raised by objectors but these were not backed by Essex County Council as the highway authority.
