Home in garden of property turned down at appeal

Friday, 6 October, 2017

Hopes of building a new house in the back garden of an existing property in Thorpe have been dashed.

Tendring District Council (TDC) refused planning permission for the application for Thorpe Green Farm in Colchester Road earlier this year.

Mr and Mrs Norman Jones challenged the decision and went to appeal but a Government inspector has ruled in the Council’s favour.

The site is outside the village settlement boundary and would be backland development.

The inspector decided that the proposal would harm the character and appearance of surrounding development.

It was also said that the benefits would not be sufficient to outweigh the harm that would be caused if it went ahead.
