A former children’s care home in the open countryside looks set to be turned into apartments.
The site of Harwich Road, Little Clacton, was last used in 2013 and it has remained empty ever since.
A planning application was submitted to convert the two-storey property served by a long hedge-lined drive and extensive grounds into six two-bedroom homes and two one-bedroom units.
The scheme with four apartments on each floor has been approved by Tendring District Council (TDC).
There will be very few changes to the outside of the building and the proposal includes a 20-space car park as well as two bin and cycle stores and amenity space.
Little Clacton Parish Council opposed the plans as it felt flats were not in keeping with the area.
There was also one letter of objection from a resident living nearby.
However, TDC decided that the redevelopment would create eight modest sized dwellings within the disused care home.
It fitted with planning policies and there would be no appreciable impact on the street scene or the amenity of neighbours, or highway safety.
