Flood resiliant home is rejected

Plans to knock down a holiday chalet and replace it with a three-storey home in Point Clear Bay have been rejected.

The scheme was submitted by Mick Skeels for Colne Way and was deferred in June for officers to negotiate a less bulky design and improve the appearance of the property.

Although changes were made to the plans, Councillors at last night’s Tendring District Council (TDC) Planning Committee refused planning permission.

While they stated that they were in favour of a proposal which tackled the issue of flood risk they could not agree the application before them.

It was rejected as they felt the design and bulk was out of character with the surrounding area; it was overdevelopment of the site and there was a lack of amenity space.

They said the new proposal failed to overcome their original concerns about the scheme.
