Arable field site turned down for three homes

A farmer has had his hopes to build three new homes on part of an arable field thwarted.

AH Brown Farms put forward an application for a 0.18 hectare site in Little Clacton Road, Great Holland.

The scheme was opposed by Frinton and Walton Town Council and Tendring District Council (TDC) received a further 14 letters of objection.

TDC is getting close to its five year supply of housing land and is therefore under less pressure to allow the development of sites which would otherwise not be acceptable.

It decided this land was socially unsustainable and went against both national and local policies.

A Council spokesman added that the adverse impacts of the scheme were not outweighed by the benefits and therefore rejected the application.

"Great Holland is a smaller rural settlement due to its size and small range of local services," he said. "It is therefore one of the least sustainable settlements for growth."
