Tendring Equality & Diversity District Council is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to its services and can play an active role in their community.
Through a new Local Strategic Partnership Board a Sustainable Community Strategy for the district has been developed which identifies the needs of the district, and in particular where inequalities occur, focusing specifically on areas of deprivation. Through joint working, the partners aim to improve the quality of life for the residents of Tendring, and to build on the attraction of the district to visitors, allowing good access to all.
The District Council is committed to Equality and Diversity, and in both removing barriers that might restrict people’s access to services and proactively working towards positive change. The Council aims to promote equal opportunities and ensure nobody is discriminated against, directly or indirectly, as a result of their disability.
The 2010 Equality Act brought together for the first time all the legal requirements on equality that the private, public and voluntary sectors need to follow. The Council's Draft Single Equality Scheme shows how we are aiming to promote equal opportunities. Under the specific duties of the Act, our objective is to:-
Provide fair, equitable and accessible services and in particular to ensure improved access to the Council's new website by meeting the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Standards.
The Tendring District Profile shows the make up of the population of Tendring and how it compares to other districts within Essex.
