Career Track - Information for Parents

Information for Parents

As a parent you want your child to get the best possible start in their career.  There are many options open to young people after they leave school and the attached information will help you to understand the benefits of an apprenticeship.

Your child must stay in some form of education or training until their 18th birthday if they were born on or after 1 September 1997.

So this doesn’t mean staying at school, it could be

  • full-time education - eg at a school or college
  • an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • part-time education or training - as well as being employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week
