What you can find on this page:
The site has been set up so that you can change the size of the
text to make it easier for you to read. If you are using a
Microsoft browser you will need to click on "View" from the
standard toolbar at the top of your screen, then select "Text
Size". You will then be able to make the text "larger" or "largest"
or "smaller" or smallest". If you make the text size larger, the
pages will become longer and you will need to scroll down further
to reach the bottom of the page.
This website can be navigated in a number of ways, which are
detailed below.
The homepage contains a list of main sections that make up the
site. The content is made up of the following main sections:
- Business
- Community, People and Living
- Council, Government and Democracy
- Education
- Environment and Planning
- Health and Social Care
- Housing
- Jobs and Careers
- Legal Services
- Leisure and Culture
- Policing and Public Safety
- Transport and Streets
We have followed a classification system known as
LAWS, which is a
system from central government that groups content in an easy to
find, user focused way. Clicking on one of the sections will take
you to the relevant content contained within that section.
This section menu will always be on the left hand side of every
page in the site. Pages within that section are shown with an
orange and white arrow, and sub sections are shown in blue.
We use a navigational aid on all of our web pages known as a
breadcrumb trail. The breadcrumb trail is a set of clickable links
which enables web users to trace where they are within the website.
It also tells users who join the website from a search engine,
whereabouts they are within the website. As a user moves through
the website, a link is added to the Breadcrumb Trail at each level.
The Breadcrumb Trail is located at the top of every page and looks
something like this: Home > Environment > Pollution
If you cannot find what you want by visiting one of the sections
above you can try using our Search facility which is in the top
right hand corner of each page.
You can click on the "Contact the Council" link from the grey
bar at the top of every page to see the different ways you can
contact the council. There is also a page of useful contacts links
in every section.
The site map is available from the grey bar at the top of every
page and provides an overview of the site's structure and a
breakdown of each section and its relevant sub-sections.
We have provided two A-Zs linked from the grey bar at the top of
every page. There is an A-Z of Council services which gives an
alphabetical list of services and the pages contained within each
service. There is also an A-Z which provides an alphabetical list
of all the page names in the website.
Frequently Asked Questions provide answers to questions that
have already been asked (eg How do I apply for Housing?). You can
access them from the button on the right hand side of the home
page, or there is a page within each section that will take you to
all the frequently asked questions within that section.
Every application or reporting form contained within the site is
available via either Apply for It or Report It. You can access
these via the buttons on the right hand side of the home page, or
there is a page within each section that will take you to all the
relevant forms within that section.
There is a button on the right hand side of the home page which
will take you to the secure payment area of the website.
There is a button on the right hand side of the home page which
will take you to a list of events over the coming months. Click on
the event you are interested in to see more details.
We have also provided links to other local websites that you may
find useful.
We welcome all feedback and encourage everyone to have their
say. The button on the right hand side of the home page takes you
to the Consultation area of the website where you can take part in
the monthly quick poll and see any other consultation that is
taking place or view results.
Wherever possible, the documents on this website are in Adobe
Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF is a universal field
format that preserves the fonts, images, graphics and layout of any
source document regardless of the application and platform used to
create it. Adobe® PDF files can be shared, viewed and printed by
anyone with free Adobe Reader® software. Please follow the link
below if you need to install the reader.

There is a "Print This Page" button at the top right of most
pages on this website. By using this button you can print the text
in the centre of the page, without having to print all the menus
and graphics at the top and sides of the page. If you are having
difficulties in printing when using the "Print This Page" button,
please try viewing the page in "text only" view (you'll find this
on the grey bar at the top of every page) and then printing the
page.
