CCTV


At the present time the Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) within Tendring comprises of 52 cameras which are located in Clacton, Gt. Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Brightlingsea, Dovercourt and Harwich. The system has recently been extended further to give an Automatic Number Plate Recognition capability.

A direct telephone line to Clacton Police Station links the control centre so they can be alerted quickly to potential trouble or they can request the cameras be directed to a certain area. Additionally there is a slave incident monitor to allow the police to track what is happening within Clacton Town Centre. There are also slave monitors in Harwich and Brightlingsea Police stations so they can monitor the cameras in their respective areas. However, movement of cameras and recording of images remains within the Tendring CCTV Control Centre at all times.

Release of recorded images is strictly controlled and only occurs in full compliance with all relevant legislation details of this can be obtained from the CCTV control centre.

The CCTV Control Centre is also linked to the radio system operated by the shops, pubs and clubs within Clacton Town Centre and they are able to listen in, offer assistance where necessary including alerting the police if necessary.
