CHANGES AT TOWN POOL TO BENEFIT CUSTOMERS

Changes are being made at Dovercourt Swimming Pool in an effort to benefit customers.

Tendring District Council (TDC) - which runs the site - is revamping part of the timetable in an effort to improve what's on offer.

These include increasing the amount of public swimming time, making a popular fun session a permanent fixture and introducing a new class for youngsters.

From September 7 there is to be an increase in the public sessions available on a Thursday, creating an extra 2.5hours.

The pool will open right through from 9.30am to 1.15pm, whereas it has only previously been open to the public from 12 noon until 1.15pm on that day.

Staff have also seen the popularity of a junior fun session with pool inflatable rise greatly since being introduced as a trial in January.

The experiment - which operates from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday afternoons - is now to become a permanent feature and part of the core timetable.

Also an exciting new junior aqua aerobics class targeting 11 to 16 year olds is to be launched on Wednesday afternoons between 3.50pm and 4.30pm from September 9 at a cost of £2 per head.

Youngsters will get the chance to exercise in the water to upbeat music with an instructor taking the class.

Cllr Stephen Mayzes, Cabinet Member for Leisure at TDC, said it is important that all the Council's facilities meet the needs and requirements of the local communities which they serve.

"The aim is that each of the District's leisure centres is tailored to help local residents embrace a better quality of life through promoting health and well-being opportunities," he said.

"We are striving to provide sustainable and excellent facilities for everyone and these changes are all part of that process."
