Sport England launched their Facilities Improvement Service (FIS) in 2007 to offer support to local authorities in strategically planning for sports facilities. Tendring District Council was invited to join the programme by Sport England in January 2009.

The Council recognises the importance of taking a strategic approach to planning for sport and recreation, and acknowledges the benefits that participation in this service could provide to the District and its residents.
