Dog Ban On Beaches

Dogs are restricted on a small number of the many miles of the district's beaches during the summer period 1st May to 30th September. Guide dogs are exempt.

On all other beaches dog owners are requested to follow the 'good dog owners code' and clean up after the dog. The bans are introduced in the interest of public Health and Safety. It should be remembered children play in these areas and dig in the sand thus they may be placed 'at risk' from infection from contact with dog faeces.

The ban also forms important criteria in the annual Coast Awards and Blue Flag schemes.

The beaches with seasonal bans are covered by local Byelaws. These are enforced by the Council's Seafront Warden team. Each banned area is very clearly identified by red and yellow information signs at every entry point.

For information and maps outlining the beaches covered by the bans see our Dog Ban pages
