Youth Theatre provision at the Princes Theatre started in
October 1994. In an effort to encourage children to become more
actively involved in theatre, a programme of Wednesday evening
theatre workshops were introduced whereby young people could
develop their talents in a range of performing arts. Students from
7 years to young adults attend classes every Wednesday during term
time and participate in dance, drama and musical theatre. Whilst we
appreciate some students may wish to specialise in one particular
subject our aim is to give an overall performance training with
lots of performance opportunities.
Almost immediately the workshops proved to be a huge success, so
much so it was decided to showcase their hard work and in March
1995 over 80 students took part in our first ever production,
"Bugsy Malone". The picture below is of the cast in the 2007
performance of "We will rock you".

Since that time our weekly workshops and annual productions have
been a huge success. Each year the Company present a stage musical
or play followed by a traditional Christmas pantomime. Members of
the Company have performed in the District's twin town of Biberach
in Germany and several students have progressed to full time
employment in the entertainment industry.
The weekly Youth Theatre sessions are coming to an
end now as the end of the school term approaches and the company
begin their rehearsals for the September production 'Disco
Inferno'. The new Princes Theatre Youth Company sessions will begin
in September 2008 and we would love to hear from you if you'd like
to get involved and join the company.
