This page provides links to information on grants to help with repairs and adaptations to private sector housing.

Unfortunately due to a lack of funding from central government we are, for the foreseeable future, unable to offer discretionary grants and loans to assist with repairs to private sector housing and have had to suspend our waiting list.

However if you have a disability, mandatory grants to help provide adaptations to your home are available - for details of how to apply please see out Disabled Facilities Grants page.

If you are on benefit, disabled or elderly and require help with heating and/or insulation then you can contact Warm Front direct on 0800 952 1555, for more details on the type of grants that they offer please visit our Affordable Warmth page.

If you are a home owner, over 60 and in receipt of a benefit then there are also grants available from the Electrical Safety Council for electrical works, you can contact them on 0870 040 0561.

If you are interested in alternative sources of power such as solar panels etc. then you can contact the Essex Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEEAC) on 0800 096 6356 or visit their web site. They can give you information on schemes which may help with reducing the cost.

Some advice will vary from authority to authority so it is advisable to contact your own local authority. To find out who your local authority is, you can check your Council Tax bill or enter your postcode on the DirectGov - the Government information website www.direct.gov.uk
