Many landlords used to give tenants agreements called
licence agreements when in fact they were granting tenancies. They
did this as an attempt to reduce the tenants security and
protection from eviction. As the private rented market has been
deregulated over recent years, they are now not very
common.
However, the
Courts now take little notice of how a document is described. The
Court has to be aware of the true intentions of the parties when
the letting was done. If you have a licence agreement, you could,
in fact, be a
tenant. |
