Duty to secure accommodation

If the Council is satisfied that you :

a) are homeless or threatened with homelessness; and
b) you have a priority need for accommodation ;and
c) you are eligible for assistance; and
d) you are not intentionally homeless; and
e) you have a local connection with this area

the Council will have a duty to secure that accommodation becomes available for you until a settled housing solution is found. You will be advised in writing if the Council has a duty to assist you. The accommodation offered could be a non-secure Council tenancy or a temporary housing association tenancy. The Council can also help people to rent privately through its Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme. The Council occasionally has to use bed and breakfast accommodation in emergency situations.

Any accommodation the Council provides must be suitable for your household. If you are provided with suitable temporary accommodation, you will need to apply to join the Council's Housing Register so your need for settled accommodation can be taken into account.
