If you have mobility problems and need any aids or adaptations to your own or privately rented home, such as grab rails, a level access shower, a ramp or stairlift etc, your first point of contact is the Adult Social Care line on 0845 6037630.

They will arrange for an Occupational Therapist to visit you to assess what works and adaptions would help you. Minor aids or adaptations they will provide for you, for more major adaptations they will pass the details to Tendring District Council. We work in partnership with Swan Care and Repair who act as our agents to process and administer the Disabled Facilities Grants. Swan Care and Repair also holds a list of approved contractors who can carry out the works.

Disabled Facilities Grants are mandatory but are means tested. If you are in receipt of certain income related benefits you would not have to pay towards the work.
